The Rev. Kevin Anthony McGrath, O.P., the pastor of St. Rose Catholic Church in Springfield, KY since 2010, died unexpectedly on Sunday, September 24, 2023 at St. Rose Priory.

Father McGrath was born on June 13, 1964 in Albany, New York, the son of the late Thomas and Roslyn Toohey McGrath.  He is survived by a brother, Thomas McGrath of Albany, New York, and a sister, Karen (John) Hill of Alexandria, Virginia.  He is also survived by his niece, Kathleen Hill, and nephews, Thomas and James Hill.

He graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC, where he studied International Relations and was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Science in Foreign Service in 1986.  He entered the Order of Preachers in 1990 and was ordained a Priest on May 24, 1996 at St. Dominic’s Church in Washington, DC.

Father McGrath served as Parochial Vicar of St. Vincent Ferrer Church in New York City from 1997 to 2004, when he was assigned to the Dominician House of Studies in Washington, DC to serve as Libarian, Director of Pastoral Formation, and Professor of Preaching.  In his 13 years of service at St. Rose, Father McGrath was esteemed for the quality of his preaching and pastoral care.  Father McGrath saw the joy in life, and he loved to talk and laugh with others and hear their stories.

His body will be received in St. Rose Catholic Church for Evening Prayer at 5:00 pm on Thursday, September 28, followed by a time of visiation until 8:00 pm.  Visitation will begin again at 8:00 am Friday morning followed at 10:00 am by The Mass of Christian Burial officiated by Very Rev. Allen Moran, O.P.  Burial will be St. Rose Priory Cemetery.

Contributions are suggested to St. Rose or Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
